Artistic Response

Here is my artistic response to this week's Soul-Calendar-16 meditation verse by Rudolf Steiner. For a brief introduction to this project, please see the blog post for week 49, which is when I started this..

Soul-Calendar-16 meditation

Rudolf Steiner's original soul-calendar-16 meditation
July 21-27

Zu bergen Geistgeschenk im Innern,
Gebietet strenge mir mein Ahnen,
Dass reifend Gottesgaben
In Seelengründen fruchtend
Der Selbstheit Früchte bringen.

My translation:
To hide spirit-gift inside the heart
Commands sternly me my inner sense,
That ripening God-gifts
In Soul-grounds fruiting
The selfhood’s fruit may bring.

*As I don't want to infringe any copyright, I am offering my own, literal, translations here. There are many excellent translations available at calendarofthesoul.net but keep in mind that most translations lose at least some of the various possible meanings that lie within the original German. Starman's translation tends to be the most literal

My interpretation of the soul-calendar-16 meditation

Trusting the process thus far, giving myself over to the world-spirit, to the weaving of life-forces in nature and the cosmos, I now find I have received something special. What this something is remeinas to be seen and I must be careful to shelter it, to tend it within and not expose it to the tumult of the world around me, or even to the curiosity of my own mind. Instead, I keep trusting the process and strictly hold myself to the inner sense that what I have received is precious and fragile and could easily be lost. So I just accept it with grace and gratitude, with an attitude of not knowing. Hopefully this divine gift will then be able to gently grow, mature within in me and become something that I could only dream of, something I cannot really imagine with my waking consciousness. Within the light if the the inner sun, I allow this seed to take root in my soul, grow and bear fruit. And this fruit, the verse seems to suggest, will be a fruit of selfhood. What could this mean? Perhaps I am being given yet another chance to grow closer to the divine by embedding within me, integrating within me, a force that subtly changes the core of my very being, so that I gradually begin to know myself fully and solidly as a spirit being amongst spirit beings?
