Here is my artistic response to this week's Soul-Calendar-25 meditation verse by Rudolf Steiner. For a brief introduction to this project, please see the blog post for week 49, which is when I started this..
Rudolf Steiner's original soul-calendar-25 meditation
Ich darf nun mir gehören
Und leuchtend breiten Innenlicht
In Raumes- und in Zeitenfinsternis.
Zum Schlafe drängt natürlich Wesen,
Der Seele Tiefen sollen wachen
Und wachend tragen Sonnengluten
In kalte Winterfluten.
I may now to me belong
And shining spread inner-light
Into space- and into time-darkness.
Towards sleep urges natural being,
The soul’s depths shall waken
And waking carry sun-glow
Into cold winter-tide.

*As I don't want to infringe any copyright, I am offering my own, literal, translations here. There are many excellent translations available at calendarofthesoul.net but keep in mind that most translations lose at least some of the various possible meanings that lie within the original German. Starman's translation tends to be the most literal
Now may I to me belong! The speed with which the season is turning is astonishing. Today is the equinox and the balance between day and night is shifting towards darkness. Yet that gift that I received in the course of the summer now seems to have matured to some extent and I finally may once again wake up to myself and stand strong in the kowledge that I may truly own myself. The outer forces in nature are drawing back into the earth and so it will progressively fall on me to shine my light where there is only darkness, in both space and time. I need to wake up, regain my full consciousness anew and carry the inner glow of the sun into autumn and towards the winter. It's such a discovery to realise that consciousness grows stronger during the darkness of autumn and winter, nourished as it has been by the warmth and light of the summer sun. The time for inner work is back and deep contemplation should now become easier again as the outward sense-impressions are weakening. The life of my soul is then able to show itself to me in clearer outlines and hopefully I can make yet another step towards self-knowledge, which is so desperately needed for the world as well as for myself.
