Here is my artistic response to this week's Soul-Calendar-31 meditation verse by Rudolf Steiner. For a brief introduction to this project, please see the blog post for week 49, which is when I started this..
Rudolf Steiner's original soul-calendar-31 meditation
Das Licht aus Geistestiefen,
Nach aussen strebt es sonnenhaft:
Es wird zur Lebenswillenskraft
Und leuchtet in der Sinne Dumpfheit,
Um Kräfte zu entbinden,
Die Schaffensmächte aus Seelentrieben
Im Menschenwerke reifen lassen.
The light from spirit-depths,
To the outside strives it sun-like:
It transforms into life-will-force
And shines in the senses’ dullness,
Thus forces to unbind,
Which creative-powers out of soul-drives
In human-works ripen let.
*As I don't want to infringe any copyright, I am offering my own, literal, translations here. There are many excellent translations available at calendarofthesoul.net but keep in mind that most translations lose at least some of the various possible meanings that lie within the original German. Starman's translation tends to be the most literal.
This verse continues making me aware that my soul is becoming or has the potential to beocme an inner sun. I find this such an amazing picture and wish I had grown up with this understanding. What a beautiful gift: Each year my soul is refreshed, re-energised by the sun to become a sun itself. And the sun, the outer sun, is pure fire, pure action, pure energy. Translated to my soul then, a force is growing within me to kindle this inner sun, this inner light, for it to radiate outward, with enhusiasm, initiative, action, love. It become life-will-force, turns into zest for living. It opens my spiritual eyes and ears and shines a light on everything around me in such a way that I am learning to see things differently, or begin to understand that this is at least a possibility and an invitation. Everything can take on a different quality, a living quality. And furthermore, this new perception, this new way of seeing the world sets free forces in my creativity so that the things I do, the things I create, the things I say, slowly become transformed into meaningful activity, into tiny contributions towards the evolution of myself, of the human being, of all life, of the planet, of the cosmos! It's a mighty picture that I experience in this verse. I can still find that gift of summer's sun from previous verses, it's growing within me, becoming a sun within my soul. This inner sun begins not only to illuminate everything aorund me and within me, but it also gives me strength and courage to bear my life, to access my own creativity, not just for myself, but for 'human-works', works that bring light and love to the world. I feel so much love streaming from this verse!
