Here is my artistic response to this week's Soul-Calendar-44 meditation verse by Rudolf Steiner. For a brief introduction to this project, please see my first couple of posts on the blog pages. See also calendarofthesoul.net where you can see a range of translations into English and other languages. By the way, I am not in any way suggesting that my translations are preferable to any of the published translations. But I don't want to infringe any copyright, hence I am offering my own, literal, translations here.
Steiner's original soul-calendar-44 meditation
Ergreifend neue Sinnesreize
Eingedenk vollzogener Geistgeburt,
Verwirrend sprossend Weltenwerden
Mit meines Denkens Schöpferwillen.
Seizing new sensory stimuli,
Remembering fulfilled spirit-birth,
Confusing burgeoning world-becoming
With my thinking's creative will.
Today is zero two zero two two zero two zero 02-02-2020.
We have now just passed the midpoint between the winter solstice and the spring equinox and this seems to present a new beginning. The third line, at the centre of the verse, speaks of the spirit-birth now fulfilled. It's done. Through the winter we have woken up our ability for intutitive thinking and now, when nature is slowly beginning to stir, we need t oremember this and keep hold of this thinking to help us meet the world and make sense of it. With soul-clarity we take hold of each new sensation. We fill the confusing and springing-into-life of the worlds becoming with that clarity, with my thinking's creative will. From a Phiolosophy of Freedom persepctive, perhaps we could say that we actively bring concept to percept, while conscious of our own essential, spiritual nature, in the act of knowing. I certainly feel and see the days are lengthening here in Scotland. It's still very mild, the birds are singing, the bulbs have sprouted and will soon bring forth their flowers. Am I ready for the outburst of sensations? Will I be able to hold on to myself in the midst of the nature forces of growth? Perhaps, once I have discovered myself as a spiritual being, then in all this outer show of nature I can recognise myself and nature in me, looking through the sense-perceptable dimensions and sensing what really lies behind, what really gives rise to all this and of course to my own body.
