Here is my artistic response to this week's Soul-Calendar-47 meditation verse by Rudolf Steiner. For a brief introduction to this project, please see my first couple of posts on the blog pages. See also calendarofthesoul.net where you can see a range of translations into English and other languages. By the way, I am not in any way suggesting that my translations are preferable to any of the published translations. But I don't want to infringe any copyright, hence I am offering my own, literal, translations here.
Steiner's original soul-calendar-47 meditation
February 23 - March 1
Es will erstehen aus dem Weltenschosse,
Den Sinnenschein erquickend, Werdelust.
Sie finde meines Denkens Kraft
Gerüstet durch die Gotteskräfte,
Die kräftig mir im Innern leben.
There will arise from the World-womb,
The senses’ light refreshing, becoming-joy.
Let it find my thinking’s power
Armed through the God-forces,
Which strongly for me within me live.
With the dawning of spring, we'll become gradually surrounded by the sheer force of new life, the absolute joy of becoming and our senses of sight, smell, hearing, taste and touch will be stimulated and refreshed by all the forms and colours that will begin to emerge. Throughout the winter months our thinking has become sharper but now we need to arm it as it were, to protect it, or safeguard it by really beginning to put our will-foces into the act of thinking. 'The God-forces' that lives in my soul I interpret to be those same will forces. As a divine being I am a being of will, and I need more and more to bring this will to bear on my sense-perceptions, which are about to multiply exponentially. In the winter it is relatively easy to bring our thinking to bear on our sense-perceptions, but now we need to begin making a real effort to maintain ourselves, as thinking beings, within the exlosion of nature that is soon to come. Yes, it is still winter, but much is happening below the surface that we cannot yet see. The mystery maybe is that I, as a child of the world, a child of the divine, behold the very world from which I sprang myself, as an eternal spirit. And in that sense, since it is the God-forces working through me, it is God beholding God, a bit like the 'I am that I am' in the bible?
