Here is my artistic response to this week's Soul-Calendar-50 meditation verse by Rudolf Steiner. For a brief introduction to this project, please see my first couple of posts on the blog pages. See also calendarofthesoul.net where you can see a range of translations into English and other languages. By the way, I am not in any way suggesting that my translations are preferable to any of the published translations. But I don't want to infringe any copyright, hence I am offering my own, literal, translations here.
Rudolf Steiner's original soul-calendar-50 meditation
Es spricht zum Menschen-Ich,
Sich machtvoll offenbarend
Und seines Wesens Kräfte lösend,
Des Weltendaseins Werdelust:
In dich mein Leben tragend
Aus seinem Zauberbanne,
Erreiche ich mein wahres Ziel.
There speaks to Human-I,
Itself powerfully revealing
And its own being’s strength freeing,
The world-presence’s becoming-zest:
In you my life carrying
Out of its magic-spell,
Reach I my true goal.
While there is no reference here to the seasons, nevertheless we're confronted by the very essense of the world, in its appearance as zest for life, or force for living, so evident in the natural world around us. This world being speaks directly to the human I, to me, in my deepest, essential truth. It reveals itself with all its power of becoming, setting free its mighty cosmic creativity and vulnerability. It reveals itself as being deeply dependent on us, on me, the human being on this stage of world evoluation, in that this mighty power of world becoming can only know itself through us, through me. It is through me, when I am able to fulfil the promise of the earlier spirit birth of my thinking, that the world can know itself. And this knowing of itself, which of course is essentially the same as the human being knowing itself, but in the opposite direction, so to speak, this knowing of self is a waking up, a breaking of the spell of appearances, of 'maya'. It is the divine 'I am that I am' in full dynamic manifestion with and through and in the human being, the human I, MY I, which is not of this world, but is now, consciously, one with the All.
